January 2018

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends. As I was trying to figure out what to wear on a warm Christmas day I received a picture from my step sister in Spokane where it was snowing.  It also snowed on my cousins in Portland.

Thank you so much for your generosity with our December charity project!  We filled bags with socks, hats, gloves, diapers, small toys and games.  When Annie Burnham took the gifts into each classroom she talked with the children about children that don’t have homes. She engaged them in a conversation about caring for others then let each child put a toy in the gift bags. Your donations went to the Homeless Camp at Father Joe’s Village. Your generosity kept children warm and happy during this Christmas season.

Once a month we have a fire drill at school. I go through the school with a fire dog puppet to notify them of the drill.  The children and their teachers stop what they are doing and walk to the steps in front of the church.  Once we have gathered we sing a song together.  This month Mrs. Pedersen with the help of Wyatt led the children in a new song about a shark.

The children have been decorating trees and the play structure with garland and brightly colored balls.  They also have opportunities to decorate in their classroom.  There is a variety of creative interpretation that they have to negotiate!

January 17 & 18 are Pajama Days at preschool.  If your child doesn’t want to wear their PJ’s bring them in a bag and put it in their cubbie. Sometimes they change their mind when they see their classmates in PJ’s. We will be making pancakes in all the classes.  I will be sending out a notice about the pancake mix to the families with children that have food allergies.

There will NOT be classroom cooking on January 4 because we will be making pancakes on both PJ Days.  The snack for Thursday, January 4 will be cottage cheese and apples.

The College Park Preschool Parent Group meeting will be Wednesday, January 10th at 7:00pm at the Bruton’s home 7659 Blue Lake Drive, La Mesa.  I hope you will be able to attend to plan the next events and enjoy the evening with preschool parents.
