Program
College Park Preschool is open to children on a non-discriminatory basis, without regard to race or religion. Children in the two’s classes need to be 2 years of age by June 1st. They do not need to be toilet-learned. Children in the preschool classes need to be three years through five years of age and toilet-learned. When classes are filled, a waiting list is maintained.
The daily program includes indoor and outdoor play utilizing a variety of equipment to develop large and small motor control. A Reggio-influenced and emergent approach to learning incorporates music and movement, literature and language arts, arithmetic and science, and dramatic activities into the curriculum. The Art Studio offers various art media and creative materials for exploration and creative expression. Children enjoy a nutritious snack daily. Other activities include cooking, computers, community speakers, and field trips. The playground offers bikes, a climbing structure, Dinosaur Dig, Outdoor Playhouses, Outdoor Garden, and a variety of sensory and manipulative materials for children to explore. A Nature Space with a Butterfly Garden and Pumpkin Patch is available for the classes to explore. A loving, positive atmosphere within a small school “family” creates a sense of belonging. Parent-teacher partnerships provide a strong basis for communication and a support system for child, parent, and teacher.
Holidays
College Park Preschool uses the same schedule as the San Diego City School District by following a September-June traditional school year and observing the same holidays.
